Review: Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's work.  Her Dark Hunters series is by far my favorite of everything she's writen though.  So, naturally, I had to get Bad Moon Rising
This Kenyon book is 340 pages long, and let me tell you, it it wasn't long enough for me!  When it ended I was like, "no!  there has to be more!"
For Kenyon Minions, you will already know who Fury and Aimee are.  For those of you not yet fans, let me fill you in:
Fang Kattalakis is a werewolf, a wolf who was the power to become human when conscious.  He is the son of the leader of his pack (though his father won't claim him and vise versa).
Amiee Peltier is a bearwere, a human who can turn into a bear when conscious.  She and her family run The Sanctuary.  To humans, Sanctuary is just a cool bar to hang around at.  But to weres, and everything else not entirely human, the bar is just that, a sanctuary.  The bar has laws that are upheld by higher powers to allow complete peace and safty to those inside it's walls.
Well, as you can imagine, bears and wolfs don't exactly mix...  But, when Fang walks in Sanctuary only to be waited on by Amiee, they both get a wake-up call.  Because they want each other, badly.   Fang knows if he gets cozy with a bear his pack will tear him apart, and Amiee knows the same will happen to her with her bear family.
But, Fate has other things in mind for them.  Fang gets sent to a hell realm and Aimee saves him, needing him back at any cost.

I already said I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's work, and I really do.  This book was so good.  Kenyon always sends me on an emotional rollercoaster everytime I read one of her books.  I mean, who can't resist a wounded puppy, right?  (pun intended)

Hex In High Hells by Linda Wisdom

Ok, I haven't actually finished this book, so what this post is, is a short little update about my reading of the book.
I had read the back of the book and thought it sounded cute and funny.  Well, it might be, but it's not my type of book.  It's very... fluffy.  It's slow-ish with the barest hint of detail and it leaves me feeling kind of cheated.
Now, I've only read 30 pages of it, so it might be one of those books that gets better further on, but I really don't think I'm going to continue reading it.

That said, I'll tell you what it's about.   A witch named Blaire runs a little antique store in her tiny mountain town.  A shape-shifter (who shifts into a Boarder Collie) has moved into the town a few months back and Blaire finds him irresitably handsome.  Well, turns out Jake finds her pretty hot too.
So, what's the problem?  Every great book has to have some sort of plot right?  Well.. Jake has left his pack, choosing to live on his own.  Now, his pissy mom is coming around wanting to drag him, a grown man, back home to his pack.

I can't tell you more than that because that is as far as I've read.  What I can tell you is that, to me, this feels like one of those romance books that could be between a YA novel and a full blown adult book.  Like I said, it's fluff to me (not my type) and seems rather like fan fiction (which annoys me).
Some people will probably love this book, but, sadly, I'm not one of those people.

Now, before I forget to say it, Happy Holidays!!!

Until next time,
Happy Reading
and Happy Holidays!

Review: Dark Lover by Brenda Joyce

Brenda Joyce!  What can I say that will pay tribute to this wonderful woman?  (Yes, I'm that speechless)
Joyce writes the Masters of Time series.  Basically, the Masters are anicent (near immotal, so they age really well!) Highlanders who have amazing powers.  They take vows for the old gods they worship and then are considered Masters.
What is a Master?  Well....  The Masters vow to protect the innocent and to use their powers only for good.  These men not only age well and have amazing powers, they, themselves, are amazing!  Basically, they are the total package.  (pun was unintented)
Now, Dark Lover is the 5th book in the series.  If you have read the previous books then you will already know our heroin, Sam Rose.  For those of you that don't already know: Sam is a Slayer (she hunts and kills demons), she is gorgeous, she now works for the governement department that hunts the evil baddies, and she is now living alone.  (Translation:  her sister, cousin, and best friend all went into the past and stayed living there with their sexy soulmates [masters])
In Dark Embrace, Ian, our hero in Dark Lover is introduced.  He is a Master's son, meaning he has some incredible powers.  But, Ian isn't a Master.  He hasn't taken the vows a Master must take.  You see, Ian Maclean is the son of Aidan of Awe, making him the grandson of the evil demon, Moray.  When Ian was but 9 years old he was killed by Moray then resurrected only to be tortured for 66 years, all because Moray hated his son, Aidan, for not becoming demon.
Safe to say, Ian, now grown up, who has been out of capitivity for 25 years, has a few wounds that have not yet healed.  Sam, who doesn't know what compassion is, must work Ian over to the good side.  (Right now Ian is playing neutral)  The two want each other in bed, but what about when the sun rises and reality sets in?

Dark Lover was extreamly emotional for me.  It was cute, it was sad, it was hot, and it was adorable.  You can't help but fall for Ian and want to take care of him after what he went through.  And Sam is every girl's hero.  She's tuff, sexy, and gets what she wants.  The book was really cute, and I am definetly going to be telling my friends about it!

Review: Take Me Tonight by Roxanne St. Claire

Roxanne St.Claire is a genius when it comes to these Bullet Catchers!  I just love her series!  Take Me Tonight is the third (3rd) book in her Bullet Catcher series.
In this St.Claire novel, Johnny Christiano, a Bullet Catcher with a (family) mafia past, is ordered to watch out for a young woman named Sage.  But, what Johnny doesn't know is that Sage Valentine is his boss's niece, and Lucy (Johnny's boss) wants to keep it that way.
Sage's roommate has just committed suicide, which seems very unlikely to Sage who knew the woman well.  Sage wants to know what really happened and she wants vengence for her now deceased roommate and friend.  So, Sage goes to her ex-CIA aunt, Lucy Sharp.  Lucy tells her she can't help, and to stay out of the past, knowing it might come back to hurt her.
Naturally, Sage doesn't listen to her aunt, who she hasn't spoken to in 13 years, so Lucy puts Johnny on her tail.  Johnny is to pretend to be the "resucer" in a "kidnapping" gig put together by takemetonight.com, a web site for woman who want a sexual thrill.  (Sage enlists herself in this website to get information about her roommate's death.)
Johnny "saves" Sage, taking her back to her house, still pretending to be the savior from takemetonight.com.  Knowing Sage would continue to try to get information, Johnny is ordered to keep his undercover identity and keep Sage safe.
Sage easily falls for Johnny, even though his cover is less than savory.   Johnny, who is Italian, woos Sage with his amazing cooking skills.. and a few other skills up his sleeve.  Johnny finds himself falling for the beautiful journalist as well, even after learning who her aunt is.

Ok, I'm pretty sure you guys know I LOVE the Bullet Catcher series by now, but this book was so cute!  Johnny was seriously adorable, and Sage was just enough bravery mixed with feminine sexuality to not get annoyed at her.  (Because, common, more times than not, we will get mad at the women in romance novels for just jumping the guy, am I right?)

Review: Thrill Me To Death

Bulletcatchers.  It's another word for bodyguard, and that's what these guys do.  Thrill Me To Death is the 2nd book in Roxanne St. Claire's Bulletcatcher series.
(First, we'll play a little game of catch up so you guys know what the series is about!)   Lucy is an ex-CIA agent who nows runs her own buisness.  She protects people with her sexy group of bulletcatchers (aka bodyguards).  Lucy doesn't work for just anyone however, she works for the richest of the rich, meaning her and her boys are doing damn good in the finances.  But then, when you're the best there is at the game, people will empty out their pockets for you.. well, and to save their own lives..
Now, meet Max Roper, the big gorgeous bodyguard prides himself on keeping his emotions (the ones he has left) under complete control while on the job.  Except, will he be able to keep the flames under control when guarding his ex-love?
Cori ran away from Max (they were together for a year) after her father, who worked with Max, died in a shooting.  Cori thinks Max could have prevented her father's death, but could he have?
Now, 5 years later, Cori is a widow to a billionaire, an old billionaire, and Max has been hired to protect her from her angry step-son.  It's obvious as soon as his name is mentioned that Cori hasn't gotten over the big hunk, and neither has Max (got over Cori, that is).  Having to dodge bullets, as well as secrets, can be tough on a guy, but Max thinks he can handle himself... Or does Cori want to be the one who handles him, like all those years ago..?
This book is hot!  I had previously read the first book in the Bulletcatcher series (KILL ME TWICE) and it was really good, but it was obvious that from a few short paragraphs I had fallen for the big guy (Max), and had to get his book.  Now, I have the next book in Roxanne St.Claire's series sitting on my nightstand, and I cannot wait to read it!
For those of you who think this genre isn't your style:  You're wrong.  I thought the same thing.  I'm more of a paranormal/historical reader, but this series seriously rocks!  You'll have to read it to beilive it, but it's the truth, so put the Bulletcatchers on your TBB (to be bought) list (or your holiday wish list!).

Review: Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter

That's right!  Both Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter has a story in this book!  In my opinion, these women are two of the best romance authors in the biz.
Kresley Cole's  novel is called Untouchable.  If you have read her other Immortals After Dark books then you will know the sexy hero starring in Untouchable!

      *drumroll please!*

Murdoch Wroth!  Yep, this sexy, lady's man, warlord is back in action!  And finding his own Bride.  His brothers stories have been told, and now it's his turn.
Wroth finds her, this Ice Maiden called Daniela, and he knows what to expect, only he doesn't want a Bride.  The ruthless warlord thinks that having one will ruin him.
Daniela is half Valkyrie, a ruthless and beautiful race, and half Icere, a race who flourishes in ice, and are unable to touch another not of their kind without pain.
So, meet Daniela, she likes to be called Danii, the woman you want to be while reading Cole's book.  She is a 2,000 year old virgin who has forever been on the run from her mother's people, the Icere.  Danii is the rightful Queen to her race, but the King wants her out of the picture, getting his army to go after her.  Danii meets Murdoch as she is running for her life, and, of course, he saves her.
The two know that the fates have put them togther, and Danii for one is happy about being with the hunky warrior vampire.  Can she tame his rougish heart?  Can he touch her ice cold skin?  Read to find out!

Now, on to the second half the book!

Gena Showalter's novel is called Tempt Me Eternally.  It is the next enstallment in her Alien Huntress series!  Now, I have never previously read any other Alien Huntress novel (those aren't my type of books) but I love everything else I've read by Gena and was excited to read this book.  And guess what?
     I loved it!
Tempt Me Eternally was GOOD!  There is a government faction that keeps the Earth safe from aliens.  And, yes, the people on Earth know all about aliens (apprently, there was a war between humans and aliens).  So, this group is called AIR (Alien Investiation & Removal) and the heroin, Aleaha Love, works for them.  She's not sure if she is a human or an alien, but she can be anyone she wants.  Literally.  Aleaha Love can change her appearence after only touching someone.  Right now, she is Macy, an ex-cop turned AIR agent.  Yep, you got it, no one in AIR knows who Aleaha really is.
And there is our golden boy, Breean.  I mean golden literally, Breean's race is of golden appeal. (Their hair and skin have a gold sheen.) Breean is a alien warrior from a different planet, hoping to make Earth his new home.  And when he sees Aleaha, he knows he found the right place to be.  The two have their differences, and they have to stand up against AIR, making the whole relationship difficult.  They are certainly explosive in the bedroom, but that doesn't make a life.  Can the two aliens make it?
Again, you'll have to read to find out more!  Unfortuntly, I don't think Gena's website has an exerpt for this book, but here is her website to check out anyways: http://genashowalter.com/

Review: Dark Prince by Christine Feehan

Dark Prince is a Paranormal Romance.  The creatures aren't "true" vampires, but a race called Carpathians.  A Carpathian is a 'creature of the earth'.  They have super strength, super hearing and eyesight, they can read and control people's minds, they sleep in the ground, they can live just about forever, and they must drink blood.
Sounds like a vampire, huh?   A Carapthian can become a "true" vampire after they kill someone while drinking their blood.  What's the difference, you ask?  The difference is, one is crazed while the other is not.  So, that is the Paranormal aspect of the story, now let's get to the Romance part.
Christine Feehan knows how to write a romance!  There is quite a few really good sex scenes built into this novel (which is in a series for those of you interested).  A young woman, Raven, who has telepathic abilities, is used to helping track down killers.  After an especially hard hunt, she escapes to the beautiful Carapthian Mountians near Hungary.  Raven thinks she is a freak, until she meets a mysterious man who has the same abilities.
Meet Mikhail Dubrinsky.  He is the Prince to his race, not to mention a couple thousand years old.  Raven is "the light to his dark", his savior, and, most of all, his one true mate.  Mikhail, of course, is gorgous, not to mention rich beyond compare.  But, hey, when you have been around as long as Mikhail has, your money tends to add up.  Raven is his everything, so it's no wonder she falls hard for him since he treats her like his princess, which might not be too far off the mark since he is a prince.
Feehan weaves a beautiful tale of romance and adventure, of love and hate, and a bit of danger.  At 314 pages, she leaves you begging for more, which is okay, because if you pick up the edition (it's the same price as the regular book) that includes the short story Dark Descent then you will have another 130 pages to enjoy of a complete short story!
In total, there are 20 books in the Dark series by Christine Feehan.  (The first is Dark Prince)
